Why we are
gathering
Last season, three major hailstorms sat over our farm for nearly 30 minutes at a time, repeatedly wiping out crops throughout the growing season. With water becoming an increasing concern in our area as well, we knew we needed a better way to protect both our crops and the living soil beneath them.
We found that solution close to home. Inspired by an affordable hoop-house design created by fellow Albuquerque grower Farm 47, we're adding two new hoop houses to provide hail protection, reduce heat and water stress, and make our farm more resilient.
Just as another farmer shared this solution with us, we want to pass it on. Through hands-on working field days at Blooms & Bunnies, we'll help other small growers learn how to build and use these affordable structures on their own farms.
